Dates: Saturday 23rd & 30th November
Time: 10:30 - 13:30 (GMT)
Format: Online (Zoom)
Across two live, interactive webinars with our expert tutor, you will dive into the practical elements of our Tea Champion course, including:
- The basics of tasting and how we taste
- Brewing with filtered and unfiltered tap water
- The correct and incorrect water temperature
- The correct and incorrect steep time
- Terroir and tasting similar teas from different origins
- Tasting and assessment of at least 25 teas from around the world, including black, green, white, oolong, puerh and flavoured teas
- Re-cap of tea manufacturing methods for the 6 categories of tea
- Blind tasting
Upon completing the course and successfully passing the short Tea Champion test, you will receive your Tea Champion Certificate and badge.
While the Practical course is open to everyone, we recommend completing the Theory part of the Tea Champion course first, as it enhances your tasting experience. We offer a bundle deal allowing you to book both the Theory and Practical courses at a special discounted price.

Tea Sommelier for Hospitality Award - ONE PLACE LEFT!
The UKTA is launching a 3-day, in-person course designed for hospitality.
Join us at the magnificent Corinthia Hotel @corinthialondon from Friday 8th to Sunday 10th November, from 9:30am to 5pm each day.
An extremely interactive course led by UKTA tutors, Carri Hecks @carri_hecks, Asako Steward @asakosteward (UKTA Tutor, Japan) and Juyan Webster (UKTA Tutor, China) with a professional Mixolgist and the Raffles Hotel Afternoon Tea Manager.
It includes tasting around 30 superb teas and is designed to help build confidence in talking, tasting and brewing teas – including matcha. It will ensure learners can engage customers in compelling taste descriptions and recommended tea and food pairings.
Here’s an overview of the programme.
Teas are placed in the context of their history and culture and the influence of terroir, varietal and production methods. We explore the unique compounds in the tea leaf and the claims around health benefits.

“Very much enjoyed the course. Our teacher Carri Hecks was very knowledgeable and encouraging. Initially, I was sceptical, if webinars suit my learning style, preferring a class room format. But now I think it benefits students, as there is time in-between to let the info sink in and also to try more teas! It was nice to e-meet fellow tea enthusiasts.”
Loan has been an avid tea drinker and enthusiast for many years, which made her decide to delve much deeper and study tea with the UKTA. She has a particular interest in tea science as well as flavoured/blended tea and is keen to create her own tea blends one day.
