This is for those who hold either the World Tea Diploma or the Tea Sommelier Diploma.

A specialist subject is chosen and (if relevant), explored through an Extended Learning Programme with one of our specialist tutors.

The student’s specialist project/research should be focused on a specific area of interest developed through the UKTA learning, to extend and deepen the learner’s tea knowledge and understanding.

Research subjects are negotiable, but might include for example:

• Terroir and tea growing (in a given region/area)
• The tea trade and colonialism
• The impact of climate change on tea cultivation (in a given region)
• Modern trends in Korean tea consumption
• Matcha tea production (in a given region of Japan)

Terms for conduct of the research and assessment requirements are determined by UKTA. These will be published with a specification and further details for enrolment in January 2025.
