HOW IT WORKS

This one day course covers all the practical elements of our Tea Champion course (tasting, brewing, blending, etc) that could not be taught in the 8 Tea Champion Live Webinars or the self-study Tea Foundation Online course.

Having completed either the live Webinars or the self-study online course and the Sensory & Practical one day course, students can then take the Tea Champion test and qualify as a UK Tea Academy Tea Champion.

WHO IS IT FOR?

The course is designed for anyone who has completed the 8 Tea Champion Live Webinars or the self-study Tea Foundation Online course.

WHAT DOES IT COVER?

The course runs from 8.45 am to 5.30pm and covers the following:

* The basics of tasting and how we taste

* Tasting practice of a black and a green tea

* What makes a good cup of tea

* Storage of tea and suitable containers

* Water for brewing and comparative tastings

* Brewing with just boiled or overboiled water

* Brewing with alkaline or acid water

* Brewing with filtered and unfiltered tap water

* The correct and incorrect water temperature

* Separating tea leaves from the liquor

* Different teapots - what's good, what's poor

* Terroir and tasting similar teas from different origins

* Taste 5 black teas

* Taste 5 green teas

* Taste 3 white teas

* Taste 3 oolongs

* Taste 1 yellow tea

* Taste 4 Puerh teas (2 raw and 2 cooked)

* Taste 4 flavoured teas

* Blind tasting

* The principles of tea blending; trainees make their own blend

TEST AND Assessment criteria

Trainees make take the Tea Champion Test at the end of the day or may choose to defer to a later date (to be arranged with UKTA). The test covers all the material covered in the Live Webinars or Self-study Tea Foundation Online course. At the end of the Sensory and Practical one day class, 15 minutes for revision will be allowed and the test will start at 5.45pm and usually takes about 30 minutes.

Accreditation is awarded to delegates that achieve 75% and above in our Multiple Choice Exam Paper.

Upon completion of the 8 Tea Champion Webinars or the Online Tea Foundation course + the Practical and Sensory 1 day course, and the achievement of satisfactory results in the test, participants will be awarded the qualification of UK Tea Academy: TEA CHAMPION.

If, in the unlikely situation of a trainee not passing the test, the test may be retaken on an arranged date and upon payment of a small fee of £36

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

    • Limited bookings subject to social distancing rules at the time of the course shall apply.
    • All attendees will be required to adhere to the social distancing rules which will be in place at the time of the course.
    • Should UKTA need to cancel the course: the UKTA will offer for the student to take the course another day within 6 months from the original booked date. No refunds.
    • Should an attendee need to cancel the course: same rules as above apply.
