World Tea Rituals - five different rituals from five countries
The UKTA has students all around the globe and we love to share experiences and learn from them about the significance of tea in different cultures. In our first event of 2025, five students and friends of the UKTA will present their national tea rituals.
Meet one of our guest speakers Dr. Sally Wei, who will cover Taiwan in the event.
Dr. Sally Wei is an accomplished classical pianist who has merged her love of music with another passion: tea.
A Certified Tea Sommelier by the UK Tea Academy and Tea Educator for Tzu Chi Foundation (Taiwan), Dr. Sally is a popular lecturer in Tea Festivals around the United States. She combines her love and knowledge of tea with Eastern philosophy and Western etiquette to show us how tea can enrich our lives, relationships, and mindsets.
Dr. Sally was the director of the Midwest Tea Festival in 2020~2023 and currently serves as the founder & director of the Nevada Tea Festival (@nevada.tea.festival) and San Jose Tea Festival.

“I’m Laçin Ün, based in Istanbul, Türkiye, a city where cultures blend. As a UKTA Certified Tea Sommelier and a Gastronomy graduate with over 7 years in the food and beverage industry, I wanted to specialize in a particular area, which I combined with my lifelong love for tea. I’ve started my own business “House of Tea” to share the knowledge I’ve gained through my tea journey with others in the industry. In this event, I’ll be sharing insights into Turkish tea rituals and our rich tea culture.”

- Poonam Gupta (@pooni_g) from India: Owner of the online tea company Holy Cow (@holycowtea).
- Sujin Lee from South Korea: Co-owner of Tea Repertoire (@tearepertoire).
- Dr Sally Wei from Taiwan: Founder and director of the Nevada Tea Festival (@nevada.tea.festival).
- Lacin Un (@lacinun) from Turkey: Certified UKTA Tea Sommelier and Founder of House of Tea (@houseofteaco)
- Le Nguyen from Vietnam: Tea industry professional specialising in Vietnamese tea.
This is a rare opportunity to hear directly from such a diverse panel of tea professionals as they share their unique tea rituals.
