AFRICAN TEA MASTERCLASS
PRESENTED BY JOYCE MAINA
Come and discover the teas of Africa. The course will take you through the different countries that produce tea in Africa and what types of tea each makes. As we journey through tea in Africa we will explore how it is drunk, and who the key players in the industry are.
We will discuss why conditions in Africa makes it an ideal place to grow tea, with details about each of the producing regions (Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Malawi, Burundi, etc.)
We will taste many teas of different manufacture types (Orthodox and CTC, black, green, white, oolong and dark teas) and different quality levels from the different countries. We’ll discuss how African teas are bought and sold at auction or by private contract and the challenges and opportunities impacting the tea industry in Africa will also be on our agenda.
